I checked out this place on yelp a couple times since it is near my work but finally stopped by today. I'm glad I did. It's quick, clean, not crowded, and they take credit cards (though a tiny charge if you're under $10). Some items you can choose like Panda Express, others are cooked to order. The people who work here are friendly, too and they eat the food as well (a good sign!). They didn't get grumpy with me when I forgot to mention I wanted my food to go and let them know after I'd already placed my order. I'm a pad kee mao fan and theirs was pretty darn good. Plenty of tasty basil, good seasoning, and nicely cooked noodles. "Spicy" was sort of on the spicy end of medium for me, but I am a big spicy food person. It was just enough to still be able to eat a lot but with a moderate burn. Thai iced tea was quite tasty. Nearly instant gratification tasty Thai food? Dangerous. I'll likely be back.

I do not even want to give this restaurant one star. I do not recommend this place to Thai people who was born in Thailand, so you know what I meant by that. The restaurant people do not speak Thai at all! It's alright as long as they know how to cook Authentic Thai food but they DO NOT! Do not order Tom Yum if you don't like super sweet. Chicken basil has no flavor at all. Nothing here makes me want to eat when I look at the food. My BF really wants to try the place because we can pick a few items like Panda Express. So we tried. It was our first and last time :(

We were craving for some Thai food today and found this place on yelp. People were raving about their Pad Thai, so I thought why not. We ordered the Pad Thai medium on the heat and garlic chicken. What a disappointment, Pad Thai was dry and garlic chicken was really sweet and dry. Sorry not worth the money..

Thai Elephant Express is a home run from yelp. I'm not sure that I've previously found such a combination of inexpensive and good food. I know I've paid a lot more for a lot worse food. We needed a quick place to eat and searched for nearby Thai food on yelp. This place had the both the highest number of and stars of the options. Frankly it looks like a hole in the wall, and we started to leave. Food is basically cafeteria style served in Togo containers. We had coconut soup, masman curry and tofu red curry. All were excellent, my wife and I were full, and the total bill... With a 30% tip... $16. This place is a find.

Mild Chicken Paid Thai--Five stars as usual. Yellow chicken curry--delicious, flavorful, soft chicken Basil Chicken--texture is weird for my liking. I like spicy food but this is beyond my limits! Inexpensive and very quick service! Would recommend!

3.5 stars It's a Thai fast food restaurant. Everything here was pretty average but works out if you don't have much time. The only gripe I can point out is that the pad Thai tends to be on the sweeter side but their portions are huge, so that's a plus.

  • Silver G.

I don't think you can go wrong ordering here.....unless your try yo go too spicy! I had the Pad Thai both mild and spicy and both are really good but whoa make sure you can handle the spiciness! Good Food overall!

This place has seriously the best pad thai I've ever eaten. After eating from this place, nothing compares. I used to come after school when I went to silver creek, but after I graduated, I still find myself coming back because its the best and they have fast service. There is indoor seating if you wish or the to go option, but either way, it will come in a to-go box with a honest amount of food. Parking is sometimes hard depending on the times and days you go, but usually it'll take you max 3 mins!

Four stars. Over the years, ive learned to actually like pad thai. The pad thai here is honestly just decent... perhaps "delicious" if youre starving. The one dish here that im super fond of is the sour and spicy soup with mushrooms floating on top. Gosh the broth is sooo good! I also appreciate the bamboo pieces at the bottom, perfect light crunch to them. This soup mirrors the vietnamese "canh chua"... I think id prefer the one from here though. I ordered it for the first time yesterday and was utterly surprised at how tasty it was. Will for sure be returning for more shortly. Side note: the lady running this establishment needs to lighten up. Smile, grin. .. something! I really dislike buying anything from people who have that grim reaper look.

So I've been meaning to try this place for a couple of years now, but never really had the chance until today. After running errands today, the boyfriend and I got hungry and was craving for Thai food. We came in and there weren't really anyone in there, but as we were eating... A few others came in. The lady that was there to take our order was nice, but wasn't very social. I'm very picky when it comes to pad thai, especially if it's made with a tomato/ketchup-like sauce. I usually prefer not, but I also wanted to try the "so spicy" papaya salad. So I ordered a pad thai (no peanuts) medium spicy, but too bad it was disappointingly sweet instead. And extra tomato-saucy... reminded me of spaghetti. -My boyfriend ordered the pad see ew, spicy. Again, it wasn't spicy like how everyone raved about it. He didn't enjoy it. -And we also both ordered a papaya salad, spicy, for togo. This, we actually really enjoyed. And it wasn't really spicy to him, but as I left it in the fridge to marinate for a couple hours... it kinda set my mouth on fire. I had to eat a spoon of sugar to relieve the pain from the heat. So might just need to leave it in the fridge for him (haha). So overall, it was quite decent. The portions are pretty good for the price. I would come back for the papaya salad, but probably not any noodle dishes.

I'm a little in shock that I have never reviews this place before when I've been coming here for years! I really really love the food here. Whether I get a two item combo, basil fried rice, or pad see ew, I always enjoy it. For my two item combos, I always get the garlic chicken and the string beans. I don't know what it is about their string beans, but I find myself legitimately only craving that. No matter what I order, I always have to have a side of it! I really love their basil fried rice and pad see ew with some spice to it as well! Be careful because sometimes it can get really spicy. I also heard the Pad Thai here is really good but I haven't tried it because it's made with ketchup, and that's a big no for me. The lady that works the front is always super friendly also! Oh, and also their Thai Tea is my favorite in the area!

  • MsBeth R.

The Garlic chicken is PERFECTION!!! I love that they cook the food in small portions, so you know it hasn't been sitting there all day. I haven't tried a thing I didn't like.... I recommend asking for a tasting if you're scared of spicy..... Don't forget the Mango sticky rice for dessert

    (5)
  • Ryan J.

This was a decent place, I am not left raving about it. I got the pad thai and I applaud them for actually making it CRAZY spicy for me per my request (most places tell me to do so myself). Unfortunately, it was just kind of dry, and surprisingly the portion was so huge I felt it was wasteful (not something I normally think to complain about). Staff was super nice.

  • Mayra S.

they have the best pad Thai ever!!! its so delicious . as well as the garlic chicken. I would recommend this place!

  • Armando A.

This place right here is the best thai i have had!! Hands down so much flavor, and get the sauce over the rice, basil chicken, green curry sauce and the fried fish! Everything I have ordered is really good and mouthwatering, all the ingredients are fresh, it is a small owned business with a busy parking lot (that stays full), but the ladies behind the counter are always nice and friendly, they do prefer cash but take debit, leave a tip for the great food! Oh and that pad thai is fire!!! Meaning good! Al the portions are pretty large and filling. HAPPY EATS! And good luck with parking!

I've been a regular at Thai Elephant Express since 2011. They serve their food Panda Express style and are quick, clean and never too crowded. You have the option of ordering 1 or 2 combo plates or a plate of noodles and fried rice (which are cooked to order). Their Tamarind Fish and Garlic Chicken are my favorite dishes here. FYI: They are closed on Mondays.

  • Thy C.

3 years later and it's time for an update! I'm a big fan of Elephant Express. The tamarind fish and basil chicken are on point. Whenever I'm here, they have so many items I want to try. I always end up getting two items and rice but then I can't finish it. Sometimes my boyfriend and I get 2 items with rice and order an extra small rice. This allows us to try 2 items and have sufficient rice for the both of us. When I'm in this plaza, this is my go-to for Thai food.

  • Monica H.

I came here yesterday because my boyfriend said this place was good and I felt like having some Thai food. I got the pineapple rice with shrimp, and I literally almost gagged when I took the first bite. The rice tasted really gross and the shrimp was fishy, to my understanding when shrimp has a fishy taste or smell it means it is not fresh.. I will never eat here again after this experience, I prefer sweet mango over this place any day.

I die a little with each bite. Where has this place been since I've relocated to the Silicon Valley? I used to have to go to Oakland to get this kind of quality cooking. I would recommend everything and anything on their menu, sooooo darn delicious. I appreciate their speedy service yet authentic, quality Thai food. I have found my holy grail in East San Jose. Recommendations: pad see ew, curry, clear coconut soup and their teas. Yummmmmmm

I have just moved to the south San Jose area and since my GF, Nan T., who is Thai we went Thai food hunting. After a search on yelp I found this restaurant, a Thai food express did sound good to me, fast and convenient I thought but...... Firstly, She wrote a review and gave this restaurant 1 star, here is my point which I totally agree with hers is that THIS IS NOT AN AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD RESTAURANT in the other hand I don't think that the chef must be Thai or speak Thai to cook a good Thai dishes. Secondly, I would fairly give this restaurant a 2 stars, I'll tell you why. -3***the cons: the food- Tom yum soup AKA hot and sour soup, it was not sour at all, actually it was very sweet. *Spicy chicken basil, there were only a very few leaves of basil, no bell peppers or onions, very sweet to not forget the fish sauce that was missing in the dish. +2** the pros: Very friendly people, clean restaurant and apparently people like it. I am very surprised that this restaurant gets a very high stars and so many good reviews comparing to other restaurants on yelp. After a discussion with my girlfriend I got the conclusion that this restaurant works for a lot of people who probably are not use to good authentic Thai food, in other words I would compare this restaurant to a good Chinese restaurant to a Panda Express or a good Mexican restaurant to a Chipotle. Lastly, I would not eat there again but I would not say "Do not eat/go there"-Nan T. , If it works for you, enjoy it!!!

I love this place and I always will. Thai Elephant will always be my go to Thai restaurant. I would say I have tried a wide variety of foods on their menu and I can say that everything I've tried so far, I have really enjoyed! I usually always get the Pad Thai... It is by far the best Pad Thai ever. Hands down!

    (5)
  • Kim H.

This place has great Pad Thai and garlic chicken! If you're ordering Pad Thai to go, it's a good idea to call in first to place the order since it takes about 10-15 min for the order. The lady working there is usually nice too but some days are better than others.

  • Anthony P.

3.5 Stars, Thai Elephant Express continues to dish out fresh tasty food consistently. It's not the best Thai food I've ever had, but it still never disappoints. Great place for Thai if you want food fast. I like how they don't fill up display case to its max. This ensures fresh food. Final Thought: Always my go-to for fast Thai food.

Welcome to my 3rd favorite Thailand restaurant. I being here Many times and will definitely come back. highly recommended. excellent food, excellent service, very affordable for the taste. San Francisco cuisine " restaurants " very expensive not even close to taste like this one. :-)

  • Tina N.

You can never go wrong with the Pad Thai here. It's phenomenal and for $10 you get a lot. You can choose between mild or spicy and both of them are delicious. It comes with tofu, chicken & shrimp with a side of nuts, bean sprouts, and a lemon. I come here all the time with my friends and we usually split a pad thai because we can't seem to finish one ourselves. The line does get long at certain times and the wait for pad thai is a little more than i would like, but its always worth it in the end. Their thai tea is also pretty good and cheaper than other places. Their customer service is amazing and the cashier is so nice and welcoming. This is my go-to for thai food & it's worth every cent!

I am Not really fond of Thai food but after trying their food I only come here and eat Thai. This place is amazing

  • Megan L.

Oh. My. God. As far a fast, inexpensive and yummy thai food goes this is probably some of the best I've had. There was essentially no wait and the food couldn't have tastes any better. I ordered the pad Thai and one of my biggest complaints is that they don't give you crushed peanuts or lime... But when I opened up my food container both were there! I definitely could have licked my plate!

Killer Thai food! Stopped by with the girl friend and tested our favorite dishes, masaman curry and pad thai . both of these were absolutely killer! Great, friendly customer service!! Might have found a new favorite Thai place!! Highly recommended!

  • Au N.

My family favorite Thai restaurant. The food is great and very affordable. A generous portion of green curry, yellow curry and rice is only $7.5. Other restaurants can easily charge $10 for half that portion. I strongly recommend their Pad Thai.

  • Jacqueline N.

I've been coming here since I was in high school. I always craved their version of pad Thai, even though it's not authentic, the way they make it is addicting as well. There's usually always a bit too much oil when I order, so I ask for less and it's just right.

Best thai food I ever had. I don't need to tell you what is good, everything is good! You won't be disappointed

Been here a couple times and had pleasant experiences. Really, I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. As others have said, the set up is similar to Panda Express/Subway/Chipotle in that you point to the stuff behind the counter that you want. The price structure is kind of weird and vague, I'm still not clear how it works, all I know is I pay nearly $10 for vegetable pad thai. Speaking of which, the portion size for their vegetable pad thai is large, enough for two people at least, unless you're starving. The flavor is great, but it is severely lacking in vegetable quantity and variety. It just has the basic carrots, broccoli, bean sprouts, but I wish there was more, like bamboo and baby corn, and just more vegetables in general. Especially since I'm paying $10 for it. They do give a great amount of tofu though. Basically, you can't beat this place when you want Thai but don't want to go through the hassle of wait service, etc.

Pad Thai never fails! Excellent service every visit. Wish they weren't closed on Mondays!

No. Extremely sweet chicken is not what I expect from Thai food. Also, pretty expensive for what it is, $9 for mediocre pad kee Mao??? Disappointing. Save your calories and money.

  • Samantha W.

Got the pad thai and pad see ew. Both were around $9 which I thought was reasonable since it is made to order. Pad thai was really good! Not the best i've ever had but definitely one of the better ones! Flavors were good, I would prefer it here over many of the thai places I've tried in SJ. It comes with chicken, tofu, and shrimp! Great amount of meat in the dish, and I don't have to pay extra for shrimp?! I'm def a fan! Portions were good for the pad thai, lasted me 2 meals. Pad see ew was okayyy. Not enough flavor for my tastes and the noodles were crazy thick. I would pass on this next time. The take out food available looked good and I want to come back to try the curry! Place looked very neat and clean and was very busy when I came in during the evening.

Been coming here a lot lately and I don't see why not. I come here for only one thing though- the garlic chicken. It is sooo good. It's sweet and sour. First time I tried it and I fell in love. The ambiance is very family-like. Free water is always a plus! The lady who's always there always has a smile on her face and hooks it up most of the time. Writing this got me craving it now!!

I live near Thai elephant & I always go here when I crave Thai food. I always order pad Thai or pad see ew both medium. It packs a lot of heat! It's one size but it's enough for my bf & I to share. I could never finish 1 myself. I love how I could call in to order & it's ready usually in 10 minutes or less, I've never waited longer!

Thai fast food! This place is so close to home and they accept cards. I tried most items and everything is good. It is on the sweet side which some people might not like but I love it! Give them a try. I love their Thai tea and there papaya salad whoa I love it, mild tastes like medium spicy .. medium is really spicy. I'm not sure if they already have the sauce premade but when I ordered mild it was still spicy. But spicy goodness. Mince chicken 3/5 Pad thai 4/5 Papaya salad 4.5/5 Basil chicken 3.5/5 Thai tea 5/5 Garlic chicken 4/5 Tamarind fish 4/5 Papaya salad and some dishes like pad Thai or fried rice are made to order. Fresh and great quality.

  • Tran H.

They don't mess with spices. When you asked for spicy, you will get mouth burning, chopsticks licking and sensational awakening spicy. Here's the breakdown of the food that we got: papaya salad (spicy)-very good. Spicy and you can tell the fish sauce is there but very subtle. Pad thai (mild)- eh, it's ok. I have had better...a little sweet for my taste. Chicken curry-one of the hot food selection (mild)-good portion for the price. Thick coconut milk taste and again a little sweet for my taste. Overall, food is ok. Good spicy level...probably will be back for the papaya salad (spicy) if I'm in the area.

  • Adriana M.

This was my first time having the papaya salad at this location and it was SPICY! I didn't really think about it twice when I came here and ordered the papaya salad mild but on second thought I should have said, not spicy. The papaya was very fresh and had other fresh veggies. Also, the salad included some dried shrimp that gave it a very shrimpy taste but I didnt mind. I also liked the fact that the peanuts were fresh and not soggy. I have not tried any other menu items but I will come back for more. I will make sure that I let thme know I can't handle the spice!

My experience with Thai Elephant first started with a 102 fever and a severe sore throat. While my staple meals during illness are usually pho or chicken noodle, I decided to be adventurous. Or at least as adventurous as a bedridden person could be, so on that day, I decided to order tom yum. I called in to the store and was promptly answered. Told them that I wanted to order a large serving of tom yum and they said I could pick it up in 5 minutes. Whoa. 5 minutes!!! Thai Elephant EXPRESS indeed. I don't think at that point I would've even had the energy to get out of bed within 5 minutes! But that's why I have a boyfriend. Within 15 minutes, I was slurping down my tom yum which included shrimp, bamboo stalks, mushrooms, and a whole lotta soup. Like more soup than all the other ingredients, but it was so good, I couldn't complain. The tom yum lives up to the yum in its name and the beautiful mixture of spices cleared up my nasal passage wonderfully. Being adventurous is fun. My second experience with Thai Elephant was after a sudden and severe craving for pad thai. This time I was physically able to view the restaurant in its entirety. It's a small, quaint store made specifically for quick orders. So we ordered the pad thai, were told it would take 10 minutes, so we headed to Target to buy bananas. Came back in 5~ minutes with an arm full of bananas to find the cashier there smiling with our package of wonderful, delicious noodles. Pros: they take card, it's near Target, parking is plentiful, food comes out fast, food is also very good Cons: I keep ordering mild because I'm wary of overspice, but I realize that mild is too weaksauce for me and that I can 1UP myself in the spice level Good stuff and LARGE SERVINGS. My goodness, took me 3 meals to finish my pad thai.

So, while I was pregnant with my son (2 years ago) I was hardcore craving pad thai for some reason. Decided to yelp what was around my place that I could have my bf pick some up for me for dinner. Found this place and 2 years later I still find myself wanting their pad thai! I love that you can pick how spicy you want your pad thai. The past few years I've tried a few more dishes and have come to find that these are my favorites here: 1) Pad Thai (medium spiciness) 2) Crab Meat Fried Rice (mild/medium) 3) Panang Curry 4) Tamarind Fish I have to be honest, this place is my family and I's #1 place to pick up dinner for nights we're not in the mood to cook. Love that it's so close to home and most of the items we order is cooked to order! *sigh* I'm getting hungry just writing this review! mmm.. pad thai!

  • Julie A.

The pad thai is my favorite! It's funny, because when I went to Thailand, I missed this place, because I think Thai Elephant makes wonderful Pad Thai. I haven't tried their other foods yet, since I love this dish so much, but I definitely should! Thai tea is the best; It is made fresh as well. Fresh Tea and fresh milk (not powdered). Very delicious. Can add in boba toppings if you want! Nice and Friendly service! You always get a warm welcome, and they take care of your order well. Fast service too! Clean, nice store. Does to-go orders too. There is plenty of free parking. I am a frequent customer, and come here whenever I crave Thai food or Thai Tea! Love this place!

As good as it gets, so says the yelp rating. This review will be strictly for the pad thai, which over the years I have a special affinity for. Some places make too much like this, others like that. However the balance of Thai Elephant was right on the money. 5 stars worthy. Came here with a buddy after post gym work out. Grabbed tea at Cool Tea Bar over in the plaza then decided to grab a bit of bite. We came pretty close to closing, though none of the employees or workers seem disgruntled. There was even a couple who came close on the dot and they were still served food. Don't do this though, its not fair to the workers. So I had the pad thai and my friend the pad seeuyyu(Sp?). His was pretty good, but my tofu extra spicy pad thai was killing it. Ate about a 3rd of it, then left it for lunch the next day. Amazing, would come back many times.

Came by for lunch the other day and it was surprisingly a decent experience. Parking in the private lot is somewhat tight. With that said, street parking might be a better option. Thai Elephant Express is a hybrid Thai Fast Food and cooked-to-order order-at-the-counter with seats and tables type of venue. The surprising aspect is that there was only a very small portion of each entree to ensure that each entree remains fresh. Ordered the Pad Khee Mao Chicken and it was very good. The noodles had a nice kick to it and the dish was flavorful. They used white meat chicken and beef is a $1 surcharge. Thai tea was okay with a large cup. ~$12.5 after tax for lunch. They do accept credit cards for $10+ purchases.

My dad and I were in town and were craving for Thai food, and who could resist a Thai restaurant similar to Panda Express? We arrived around noon and the ENTIRE parking lot and street were completely filled, so we were forced to park in the Target lot and had to cross over. *Beware! There is NO cross walk for pedestrians, so watch out for flying cars zooming through the street! When we entered the restaurant, it was completely empty but the food were steaming hot. We both ordered a plate with steamed white Jasmine rice and 2 entrees of our choice(around $8.75 each), and one Thai iced tea with boba (around $3.15). While my dad chose the fried fish and red curry, I chose the yellow curry and basil chicken. Review of the dishes: The fish was crunchy and tasted similar to sweet and sour chicken (but not too sweet), while the red curry tasted slightly sour with thinly sliced onions. The yellow curry was a bit sweet and pungent topped with huge slices of carrots and chunks of potatoes, while the basil chicken was extremely spicy. *Several things to note, the curries are slightly more watery compared to Middle-Eastern's thick, creamy curry, however, you can ask the employee to drizzle the curry over your rice to add more flavor to it. Also, you can ask for a larger portion of rice and the plate will still cost the same. I definitely recommend this restaurant to Thai food lovers, but not spicy food lovers because even the basil chicken was too spicy for me and I usually love eating spicy dishes. The Thai iced tea also seemed extremely sweet, but also refreshing as I drank it considerably with the basil chicken. I definitely will come back to Thai Elephant Express to try their other dishes and recommend for others to as well.

Yesssssssss!!!!! I really really like this place!! For lunch I ordered the 2 item plate with steamed rice, garlic chicken, and spicy basil chicken (ground). Everything was perfect! Add some soy sauce to the rice and you're good to go! The garlic chicken is sweet, chunky, and I love the fried basil leaves that come with it. I love basil. Anything basil. Seriously. Hence, the second item: spicy basil chicken. It's ground chicken with bell peppers and basil. It's suppose to be spicy, but I wish it was spicier! I looooove spicy food! My total came out to be a little over $9. Not bad at all! The lady behind the counter is nice and it's a small clean restaurant. They have a few tables and free ice water. I'll definitely be back again!

Think of Thai Elephant Express as the Panda Express for Thai food. It's our go-to place for to-go food when I have the craving for thai food without having to dine in. Big difference is that the people cooking the food are actually Asian! Our favorites are the crab fried rice, pineapple fried rice, pad thai, pad see ew, and pad kee mao. The food we order is always made-to-order so comes out hot and fresh. Since it's still pretty mom and pops, they try to keep their prices down by preferring cash and taking cc only above $10 which isn't terribly difficult. Parking can be challenging now that the complex is getting more crowded and there are plenty of terrible drivers so watch out. You might as well park on the streets on the weekends since people stalk people walking to their cars like black friday. If I could give some advice to the owners it would be spend that extra 2 cents and give customers better plastic forks! The heavy/sticky rice noodles are not match for their flimsy ones they have now.

  • Kaylee L.

My first impression is the cleanliness of the place. It is very well kept and cleaned! We ordered one combo rice with 2 items. One of it was the chicken curry, and I didn't like it. I got sick of it so quickly. I also ordered the shrimp pad thai, and this one is much better. It was freshly made. Portion is reasonable. I will come back if I am in a hurry and want some Pad Thai, but I wont't be a regular here since this is a fast-food for Thai foods.

Mediocre food, never prepared in the quoted time. Phoned in my order today while shopping at target. Walked in and told them I ordered over the phone, they said just a few minutes. Then I see people order, receive their food, and still no word on mine. I'm told to just keep waiting. Finally, I ask why it's taken 25 minutes to prepare my food, which I then describe to them. The girl at the front then grabs a box of food that's been sitting there getting cold for at least 10 minutes. Pathetic.

The pad see ew is DA BOMB! Couldnt help but finish the whole thing. A good deal if you split with someone else. Wall decor is slightly tacky but who cares because the pad see ew is amazinggg. Oh wait I already said that, but just wanted to get my point across. Unfortunately I can't say the same thing about the pad thai. It's alright but not as amazeballs as the pad see ew. Something is missing...cant put my finger on it, but it tastes different from what I'm used to. I love coming here and will be back. PS: Please offer samples cuz I am interested in trying the basil noodles but I'm not sure if I'd like it. Thanks!

This is my go to for a quick lunch. I always go here with my little sister and we always get the chicken pad Thai and the pad see ew. It's very good! The lady that's there every time I go is always so nice to us. The food comes out fast also. I love this place!

I was craving some good, spicy pad thai and came across this place on yelp. The small place is located close to Target and is nice and clean on the inside. I ordered two thai teas, a small coconut soup, a pad thai (extra spicy) and a pad see ew, which altogether came to about $29. When I first opened the boxes of food I was initially super excited because it looked so good! I was completely underwhelmed when I actually took a bite :( The pad thai was NOT good. Despite the spiciness (which was actually really mild considering I ordered extra spicy) all I could taste was a very unpleasant sweet tomato paste...in all honestly it tasted like noodles doused and sautéed in ketchup. Gross! The tofu was dry and oddly sweet also, and the shrimp didn't taste all that fresh. One of my shrimp still had the shell on so when I bit into it I got a mouthful of shell...yuck. Best part of it was the chicken and even that was dry and again, doused in the mysterious unappetizing ketchup sauce. As someone who almost ALWAYS finishes everything on their plate, I ended up leaving almost all off what was a $9 dish. Disappointing. The pad see ew was definitely better and had a nice flavor to it, but nothing I would go out of my way to come back for. The best part of the meal was the thai iced tea and the coconut soup, which was rich and flavorful. Overall, I might go back for the soup or a iced tea but I must say I have no idea why this place gets buzzed about so much. I've had much better luck with Thai food in other places.

Given the half hour long line I waited in to experience it, I was shocked to find this place was such a disappointment. I ordered the Thai Basil, steamed rice, and Tom Yum soup. The Tom Yum soup had some hints of coconut in it (I think because they used the same ladle for both soups) and had a mild flavor to it. The Thai Basil tasted quite strongly of fish sauce, so much so that I didn't finish my dish. I didn't get a whole lot of basil and I didn't get a whole lot of other flavors, either. I can't help but wonder if I just picked the wrong dishes, but I can't handle when you can detect the fish taste from fish sauce in your food so won't be chancing it. Not to mention, this parking lot is a nightmare.

Delicious food ready really quick. I love their curry fried rice. Pad kee mao is also a favorite. Careful of the spice meter, medium is pretty spicy and I love spicy food. I think not would just be too much. They have played that they make to order like pineapple fried, pad Thai, and pad see ew is good. The available selections they have for right away to go, those choices are also really good. They will also let you try it if you ask. They'll give it to you in a small cup with a toothpick. They close at a decent time cause I'm always craving good late. Prices aren't too bad for the large amount of food given. I always have about half left over. They also take phone orders.

As much as I really try to eat spicy food, I'm afraid I must give up. I got basil fried rice-spicy. It was so spicy that I couldn't taste any other ingredients, my mouth was on fire but I managed to eat about half of it! A few hours later when I went to lay down(12am?), my intestines were burning! It was so painful that I felt like vomiting. I had to hug a pillow to feel comfortable. I'm not sure what ingredient could cause this pepper or chile oil? but it felt horrible. I woke up like at 3am sick to my stomach and intestines still burning. I'm pretty sure it was my intestines, pain was felt in the abdomen area below my stomach. I'm really not sure why people eat food this spicy, do you crave having your mouth on fire or the chile taste? I think I'll just stick to medium spice level. Anyway, the food tasted fine. Yes it's like Panda Express for Thai food. You can also order fried rice and it's made to order. Friendly customer service. Horrible parking.

This used to be the roommate's favorite Thai place for takeout, but the last time we were here, the food was just a letdown! I was in town for Thanksgiving last year and we decided to get takeout. *Spicy soup (med) $5.50 *Pad thai ($8.95): noodles, egg, tofu, chicken, shrimp *Basil chicken (1 item) + Steamed rice ($7.25) *Basil chicken, Green beans, Chicken red curry (3 item) + Steamed rice *Papaya salad with salted crab I recall the soup being just plain bad. Sooo sweet and not very spicy at all. We tried doctoring it up in order to make it edible. But in the end, we ended up throwing it out. Their basil chicken used to be the roommate's favorite version of the dish, but this time, it was rather bland. I got the 3 item combo. The mains were okay and it was a good size. I don't remember the papaya salad too well, so it was probably alright as well. I may try them again as the first time I came here, I loved all their food. Hopefully it's gotten closer to what it used to be. This last time was kind of a sorry excuse for Thai food.

(: Boba-Foodaholic Says :) My order: Pad Thai + SM Coconut Soup + Combo (Basil Chicken + Eggplant Tofu) Finally, we tried this place after seeing all the reviews and a quick thai place like "Panda Express." So why not try fast-food thai instead of going to Thai place. So we went there at night around 7PM. There weren't that much of people and not much seats. We had to wait for someone to leave because they only had 5 tables. I thought the food is made from Thai people, however, they are Vietnamese but the food was good. Pad Thai - I ordered mild pad thai but it was freaking spicy and a lot of amount of food which I couldn't finish the food at all. Also, the noodle was too soggy, which sticked all together like it's been cooked for awhile. However, you get what you paid for. Combo - White Rice + Basil Chicken + Eggplant Tofu It's like Panda Express, which you get rice and two other entree; however, you can't get soup with the combo, so my boyfriend got it separately. He liked the food, which tastes like Thai style (He is Thai). SM Coconut Soup - My boyfriend ordered the soup because they said you only can get it separately. I did't like the soup but my boyfriend liked it, which he finished all the food.

Come prepared..... cash only! Located in the Paloma center across from Target. Get the Pad Khee Mao & Garlic Chicken with white rice! Great portions and savory, salty items which compliments rice! I will be back for their delicious looking curry. Reasonable price and generous portions, love the lady that scoops me the food!

Came here for a late dinner with my brother and got lucky! We ended up running into the owner! Very relaxed gentlemen who took the time to have a small conversation about the business and how it was doing and it's doing great! Nice and busy! I had 2 orders of the tamarind fish with rice, and my brother got a chicken pad Thai and a medium side of chicken curry. We both got Thai iced teas with pearls. The food was delicious as usual! We would definitely recommend this place to friends and we will be back again very soon! :)

PARKING crowded parking lot They now accept credit cards! My favorite spot for thai food near my house until convinced otherwise. Walking in, you'll see several tables, but not many. To the left, theres a display of hot foods. They have a few varieties of curries and then sides to eat with rice. Everything actually looks really good. As for their noodles, youll have to wait maybe 10 minutes. Theyre generally pretty quick. I've tried pad thai and finally, a place that actually makes their pad thai SPICY! Their pad see ew is delicious as well.

The portions are very generous and the ladies at the front are always nice. They speak broken English but try and succeed in communicating with you. They are serious ( not very smiley) but I can tell they try to give good costumer service despite the lack of language skills. I appreciate that. That being said I actually prefer they are fluent in their native tounge because in my experience that equals authentic good food when it comes to restaurants. I love the pad thai here! I always ask for extra spicy chili's and they never fail.

For the portions they give you and the quality/authenticity of the food, this place is honestly one of the best I've ever been to. The food tastes like home. Also, the service was quick and very polite. The place is really clean and I thoroughly enjoyed their music selection too haha

Best papaya salad and garlic chicken ever :) the pad Thai I can do without. The ladies working here are always so sweet and the place is nice and clean as well! I love this place! Don't forget they're closed on Mondays!

its been a while since i ordered food here. this was where it all started with my pad see eww obsession.. i havent had anywhere else that makes good flavorful pad see eww than this place. for a thai fast food, its not half bad as you think it is! the curry is milky with a touch of spice which is pretty awesome when its drizzled all over your rice. but i must say.. parking sucks ass

Located in a plaza which seems to have a new boba shop every time you visit, Thai Elephant Express serves up some pretty good Thai food! Beware, the Basil Chicken can be extremely spicy (to the point where you won't want to eat it). Not sure if this was a one time thing but just a heads up! The pad thai, garlic chicken, and any of the fried rices are great! All of the items come with a very generous portion of steamed rice. Keep in mind, sometimes they run out of items and you have to wait ~5-10 minutes while they cook more (points for super fresh food!) Parking is terrible, if its really full, park in the plaza behind (with the pharmacy/offices) or on the street near Target.

Prices have definitely gone up over the years. This was my go to place in highschool when I was craving asian food rather than the traditional Vietnamese dishes :) They aren't cheap with the pad Thai and the workers are really nice

Decent food for a Thai take out place. But for it not being a restaurant or having big portions, they charge a lot. First time We ate here I had the 3 item with yellow curry(yum), string beans(yum) and tamarind fish which I heard a lot about. But ended up getting sick from the fish. So I would recommend avoid that dish unless you have a stomach of steel. I've been pulled back to this place by friends and have tried the green curry, basil chicken and pad Thai. All were delicious, I just wish that for the price, they gave bigger portions instead of one scoop and a mountain of rice.

3.5 stars Not my go to place for Thai food but when I need a quick fix, I go here. Their already made entrees and sides are alright, but their made to order dishes such as pad thai and pad see-ew are pretty delicious! The Thai tea is also better than most other places I've tried and cheaper too. They have a boba menu as well and I prefer their drinks over their neighbor, Tap-Ex. I recommend this place for quick Thai food/drinks.

Called and placed an order to go. The lady on the phone could hardly speak English so there was a huge communication barrier especially I was ordering several dishes. Thai fried rice was the most decent out of all of my orders. Pad thai was meh. Spicy fish was not spicy at all hence the name. Yellow curry chicken was dry. Mango w sticky rice, let's just say I wouldn't order it again. I probably won't come back anytime soon.

    (3)
  • Huyen D.

I love eating the mango sweet sticky rice here. I'm a vegan and I'm curious if all the ingredients put into this dish are vegan. If anyone knows and could help me out I'd really appreciate it! :D

Honestly, this place's PAD THAI is the best I've ever had. I've gone around to quite a few Thai food places, but none of them get the sauce and the tangyness quite perfect like this place does! It's a little small shop with really nice service! Also, the curry is coo too! And, they have a $10 minimum for card or else they charge you an extra $0.30 or something.

Not bad for fast food Thai. We go there enough that the lady knows exactly what me my wife and my kids order. Double Curry Chicken, Double Spicy Fish, Double Tamarind Fish. We always order same stuff. Boring, but consistent. :-) We like it cause it's fast, clean, and fairly tasty. Also, the lady behind the counter is nice to us. I've also tried the Basil fried rice, the Pad Thai, and the Pad Se Ewe. They cook this stuff up as you order so it's made fresh. It's hit or miss though. I've had some orders that seemed over cooked. We used to order this stuff ALL the time, but have since transitioned to our 'usual' order above. I've been here well over 2 dozen times, so I do like the place. It's not the best Thai, but it's fast and friendly. Pricing is not bad either. Give it try! Note, they also have Papaya Salad with the crab...just ask...careful, spicy means very spicy.

My go-to quick Thai food place ! It's something about their Pad Thai and garlic chicken that keep me coming back! The Pad Thai is consistently always delicious and my fiancé and I are hooked ! We don't even live in San Jose , but if we fly in or out of San Jose we always stop here ! Good thing we fly often, so that we can get our Thai elephant fix. The only downside is the parking lot is crowded and crazy--especially on the weekends. Tip: if you can find street parking between the target parking lot and Thai elephants parking lot-- just park there and walk into the shopping center!

Came in almost closing and asked for a VERY SPICY PAD THAI. I got a VERY SWEET PAD THAI. I had to dumped a lot of siracha on it. the shrimps were real though no the tiny ones

  • Jennifer G.

An okay thai place. Tom yum is very weird tasting. However, a must try are their green beans! Whenever my family and I go we order a large order of green beans and the lady behind the counter will pack them up so high in the to go box that it won't even close, she puts it in another bag to wrap it. I also like their chicken basil and their tamarind fish. Overall it is a very convient fast food thai place. :) Side note: The people are also very nice. It is also nice to hear of a place that sells fresh ingredients with no msg.

my fav place to grab combo rice with their curry. I would rate 6/10 for pad Thai. but be careful, don't put too much lemon or else it would be TOO sour, I prefer the pad Thai in grand century better. Their fried rice.. Bomb! I recommend the crab and pineapple fried rice (-:

Hooked on Thai Elephant's pad thai! For fast food, it's made pretty good and the lady at the counter is always welcoming as well as providing friendly service. It's been consistent for me every time I've been there. Always a medium spicy pad thai, extra lemon wedges, no peanuts for me. The portions are huge! I always have about half leftover for later. There's usually a lot of chicken in their pad thai which I personally just do not like because I don't eat that much chicken. There's also shrimp, tofu, bean sprouts, and a nice, thick sauce. My bf usually gets rice w sweet basil chicken or garlic chicken. A must try as well! Their "Spicy" is pretty spicy, so just a heads up. And they have iced water for free inside. Cash only!

  • Victoria N.

As a take-out place, Thai elephant is always consistent with their food. The employees are super super nice as well. Everything on the menu here is sooo good. It's not what you'd deem as "traditional" / authentic thai, but it's still quality food! I would recommend almost everything on the menu but my favorites are: green thai curry. Thai fried rice. Pad thai. And pad see ew. Their eggplant here is good and is definitely recommend getting the green beans! As you can see. It's pretty hard for me to decide on what I want to order so I always go w a friend and do a family style type of meal. But seriously. Don't forget to order a side of green beans!

I heard many good things about this place so I decided to try it for myself. I tried the Pad Thai and Pad Saw Ew. The Pad Thai was not amazing but it was not bad. But the Pad Saw Ew was way too salty! I literally had to force it down my throat and I wouldn't have survived eating it without drinking water. I don't think I will be coming back to this place any time soon.

After years of overlooking & passing this place, I was finally persuaded to try it because it exceeded the bf's standards (not an easy feat)! It's located in the Paloma center across from Target & OSH. Very small mom & pop shop but I didn't mind because the food on display looked very fresh and delicious! There is also a drink menu available on the wall. You can either order their a la cart items with rice or made to order items like Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao & fried rice (Thai, Basil, Pineapple & Crab). I went with the basil fried rice & he had the pad kee mao. The food came out within 10 minutes! There is a 40 cent surcharge for credit card use under $10. Honestly, I didn't expect too much even after hearing the bf rave about it because the pictures were just okay. When we got home & I opened up the boxes, I was blown away by how flavored everything looked! There was not a grain of rice that was pasty white (this happens more than you think) & the chicken wasn't all white either! We chose medium spiciness and it was perfect. I couldn't have been happier with my meal. After so many let downs at fast food Thai places, I am glad to have found this hidden gem right in my hood. Thanks for the rec, boo! P.S., they do NOT use MSG!! Major plus points! I am definitely going to come back here for these two dishes (:

This is the first time I went to this place. I got the pad Thai and it was really yummy. I never seen pad Thai so orange before. Lol there was nothing wrong with the taste. I just never seen it like that. My food came quickly. I couldn't finish the whole thing but I took my leftover home. If your looking for quick Thai food this is the place to go.

Pad thai for $8.95? Yes please!!! If you're craving thai food and not really in the mood for the whole sit-down-dinner thing, this is the place to grab some delicious thai food to go! I honestly love everything here including their yellow chicken curry (sweet and savory), tamarind fish (sweet and tangy), basil chicken (nice spices), pad thai (best pad thai I've had yet), and their amazing thai tea that beats any milk tea place I've ever been to hands down. The last few times I went they don't really offer up samples anymore but if you ask then they're more than happy to. I always see the same lady and she's the only one who's ever helped me. She's friendly and smiles but doesn't talk much. They added a few new things recently such as more choices in terms of drinks. I still perfer their thai tea over anything else (they do have pearls if you ask). They have plenty of tables to sit down and eat at. They also offer free water. I like that they sometimes have infused water such as adding lemon or cucumbers in them. Classy haha. They're not open on Mondays. They do accept credit/debit cards now but will charge you a fee if the total of the purchase is under $10.

I have yet to try the food here but I always come to get my thai tea fix. I LOVE THEIR THAI MILK TEA. It's the perfect drink. The sweetness isn't overpowering. And it's the right balance of milk and tea. I've tried MANY places in search for the perfect thai milk tea, and so far this is the best place to get it. And the pricing is pretty decent as well, just 3 bucks after tax.

For a fast food style place I was really impressed with the food. We got the tamarin fish and a curry. Hit the spot for my curry fix. We also got the crab fried rice... I'll be coming back soon!

Surprisingly delicious for a fast-food styled Thai place. Went there for lunch and was happy to find that it wasn't busy and I was able to get my food rather quickly. The Pad see ew which was really good and was told by my co-workers that the Pad Thai was definitely worth getting.

I've come back, after four years. We got Pad Thai (of course) with medium spice level, a two item combo plate, and their spicy and sour soup. I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't disappointed. Their Pad Thai was okay. It wasn't spicy, a bit tangy, and thankfully not sweet. I mean, it had some sweetness but it wasn't as sweet as most other Thai places make it. It came with a good amount of jumbo shrimp, and little chicken and tofu. For the two item, we got white rice with some chicken curry and garlic chicken. Never getting garlic chicken ever again. It sounds good but it was way too sweet. It didn't taste right, but I did like the basil leaves. The chicken curry was alright. It just tasted like Thai version of chicken curry. I really like that they ask if we wanted the soup part of curry poured over the rice. The spicy and sour soup did not have enough stuff in it, just a lot of bamboo shoot, very little mushroom, very little shrimp, and chopped cilantro and basil. Nothing to be wow-ed about. I liked the Thai Tea though. There was more of a tea taste. My overall experience was okay. I'll come back if I'm in the area and don't feeling like driving to my favorite Thai place.

I frequent Thai elephant quite a bit. It's my go to place when I am too tired to cook or too lazy. LOL. It's quick because I call ahead of time to place my order. Their food is more expensive for the size but I know the quality is good. I'm allergic to MSG so it's nice to know that Thai Elephant doesn't use it in their food. Their basil chicken is good. A good dish if you have young kids because it's ground chicken. Spicy fish is also good. Egg plant with tofu is good. Garlic chicken is their signature dish. It's very good but on the sweet side in case you're not in the mood for sweet. Thai ice tea is good as well. They take cards!!!! Always a plus as I hardly carry cash!! The lady who's always there is super nice!!!

  • Vivian T.

FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY.. the lady here is seriously the real MVP & always hooks it up with a little more than usual. i usually always get the 2 item combo with tamarind fish and garlic chicken. to be honest, i'm usually way less likely to order fish while going out to eat, but the tamarind fish is really nice and a little crisp and really tangy. if i'm not eating that, then i would be eating yellow curry which is one of my favorites. the pad thai here is huge and i'm always sharing with someone else, but sometimes we don't even finish it ourselves. i usually don't handle spice too well, but anything above mild pad thai is pretty serious. i've heard this from other people as well. i usually always get thai tea here.. and seriously no where else I would get thai tea. their tea is so orange!' but the tea is a lot better than any boba place

I love that this place is next to my house! I was craving Thai food one night and decided to try this place out. I walked in and saw a sign that say no msg. SCORE! You can definitely taste the food for what it is. Nothing is over salted and just perfect over qouina. I've tried plenty of items that I can eat, but my favorite is the red tofu curry and papaya salad. The lady that runs the front, I assume is the owner. She's a very sweet nice lady that makes super yummy food. This place is my default place when I don't feel like cooking dinner and prices are not overly expensive. They keep the place very clean and neat and they now have fresh juices. I have yet to try them but will have to one day, when i'm too lazy to make my own juices. A+ Thai Elephant!

My favorite spot for a quick and tasty meal, especially for Thai food. I highly recommend their pad Thai. I'm very picky with my food and they always prepare it just the way I like it! I also recommend their Thai tea drink, it's super cheap and super good! This place can get a little crowded since it's a small shop but it's worth the wait. OH! and they accept credit cards. Yay!

    (5)
  • Joey T.

Fast and flavorful. Their portions are pretty big but they don't sub quality for quantity. Third time here and the pad Thai and garlic chicken were still delicious. Will be trying their curry next time!

Don't let the name fool you; Elephant Thai Express has some great Thai food. My favorites are the Garlic Chicken, Basil Chicken, and Pad Thai. If I feel like dessert I go with their Mango Sticky Rice. All the dishes I have tried are very flavorful with Thai spices. The staff is always friendly. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because sometimes I wish their portion sizes were a bit larger. But when you have that craving for some quick delicious Thai food, this place really hits the spot.

Fast and delicious. Try the green curry and pad kee mao. All of the dishes we had tonight were great and we liked that there was care taken to make sure all of the meat was trimmed and free of fat.

This place gets 4 stars for me, simply because of parking. It is in a VERY dense shopping center where parking is extremely difficult. I love the basil chicken here, I also tried the spicy fish the other night, it was GREAT! the portions are very, very good... even though I did not order any variation of curry, they were kind enough to drizzle my white rice with a curry sauce of my choice (and a few slivers of chicken came with it too!)

I don't really come here for anything but their papaya salad, which I am such a fan of!

  • Chann K.

Our go to spot for fast thai food. Good selection and very friendly ladies at the counter. Not a fancy dine-in so no high expectations. I usually get the Pad Thai or rice with yellow curry. One of the better Pad Thai in my opinion. Anyways, for what it is, food is fresh, fast, and fills you up.

    (5)
  • Phuong T.

Good food and consistent too. However, the portions are small and getting smaller. I've been coming here since they open and at the beginning, they were giving big servings and not skimping on the food. Lately though, I've noticed some cut back (not a lot of rice and main dish were given). I've been here less and less. Shame though, good food.

  • Kay P.

Great place if you want something quick, fast, and delicious! It's a Thai place owned by Vietnamese people I thinkkkk. It's pretty good! I always get pad see ew or pad thai. I like the garlic chicken with rice as well.

  • Andy N.

Fast food thai...great idea. The counter is sort of like a panda express, but thai...and better! As you come in they have pre-made dishes ready for you in display and you can choose whichever you want to eat. I always get the Pad Thai, and it takes them about 5 minutes to make it, which isn't too bad at all. But they do give you a huge amount of food...they basically just stuff that to-go box all the way to the edges. I also get the garlic chicken, just because that sauce is so amazing! The lady behind the counter is also very friendly and nice, but I've seen her be very rude to customers. So be aware! Also..CASH ONLY and CLOSED MONDAYS

If i'm ever in the mood for thai food, my go to place would be this place! The cashier who works here most of the time is super nice and welcoming! The food here is tasty, fresh, and it is very consistent everytime I visit this place! They have a large variety of curry for you to pick from! I'm really fond of the Pad Thai, and whenever I choose to eat the rice plate, I will ALWAYS pick the garlic chicken! One of the best things about this place is that it doesn't take long to prepare the food! The most I've ever had to wait was probably 10 minutes. The parking lot around Thai Elephant is usually crowded so it can be hard to find any parking. You can say that it's not traditional Thai cuisine, but it's some quality food at an inexpensive price!

I just loveeee this place. I always get the fried catfish, papaya salad, and pad Thai. The papaya salad is insanely delicious here. I tried papaya salad at every place you can name, this is the best. The spice is just right and the peanuts add a great taste as well. Sort of pricey, but its reasonable for their large portions.

I love coming here. MOST of the time, the food is on point. I like their chicken basil & pad thai. They used to be cash only. But recently they switched it up & we can finally use debit. But 10 dollar minimum. If its under 10, you get hit with a .40 charge.

I've been going to this place since high school and it's always been consistently great. The portions are huge! If you get one of their 2 item/one side options, it's good for two people. The lady who serves is super nice and if you get the Sweet Basil Chicken, she'll offer to pour some of the soup over your rice. DO IT! That soup is delicious. I love the Garlic Chicken too. It goes perfect with the sweet basil chicken sauce rice. The green beans and the yellow curry chicken are pretty good as well. Once, when I got a small to go box of the green beans, they filled the box up to the top to the point of it not being able to be closed. They also have some made-to-order options such as Pad-Thai and Thai fried rice that will take a couple of minutes to cook fresh to your desired spiciness. These range around $7-12 I believe, depending on which item you get. These are delicious as well. Thai Elephant has been great every time I've gone and the ready made dishes are consistently great. You are able to sample these if you like, so don't be afraid to ask! Service is great and the people who work there are very kind. Side note: CLOSED MONDAYS!

This place is great, the people here fill up your plate and play really nice maroon 5 music. 9/10 Would Recommend

This is one of my favorite Thai places in SJ. I usually order the 2 item plate with the fried fish(it's a little spicy which I love!), the string beans, and I also ask to pour some of the sauce from the basil chicken curry. The sauce is delicious! The servings are also huge. The pad thai is also really good!

  • Miguel A.

Ive ordered almost everything on the menu and it is all delicious! The Thai tea is better than the places nearby and the pre-made food is good. My personal recommendation is the basil chicken and tamarind fish. The pad thai is much sweeter than i expected but it is perfect for me! Its never too crowded and I can always sit in. The staff are friendly too! They also get the spice level perfectly when you request mild medium or hot. Its always just what I want! PLEASE note that the papaya salad is Thai-level spiciness so make sure to get very mild for those faint of heart.

$$ - This place is a bit pricey for being considered fast food. Parking is always a drag because the parking lot is pretty much always full in this plaza. As far as food goes, this is the best Thai food you'll find in the evergreen area. The spicy basil chicken and shrimp pad Thai are a staple for me. Very flavorful and filling. Tip - if you order pad Thai and aren't a fan of too much tofu, ask for little or none at all. They put a heavy amount that takes up close to half of the serving.

  • Richelle L.

Very affordable, delicious, good quality, take-out thai food - never thought I would be able to find such a place, but alas, it does exist, and nope, it's not in a land with unicorns, rainbows, and pots of gold, but in east san jose!

This is my go to. I love this place. I always get the pad Thai, yellow curry chicken, and sticky mango rice! It's da-bomb. Also, the woman that works there is always friendly. They listen to what you want, and they do it super fast. It holds up to its name.

Fast food for Thai. Well I didn't have high expectations since its Thai Fast food. I was very skeptical. We ordered Thai Basil Fried Rice and Pad Thai, and Tom Yum soup. Worst Pad Thai I've ever had. Too saucy and sweet. The Tom Yum Soup was also too sweet. Yuck. Get the fried rices instead. Thai basil was medium spicy and delicious. Prices are decent and portion is huge. You can get it to-go and eat it later.

I love the flavors here, its high quality, clean, and really fast. You will be surprised to learn that fast food does not always have to mean junky low quality food. I come back again and again.

The food here is good. Ive been here a couple times before. But yesterday when i went in for a quick dinner with my husband, i ve found hair in the Chicken Masman curry. It was very gross. Although she felt sorry when i pointed it out, i still think they could have been more careful and attentive. The prices are a bit overpriced too, for a fast food joint. Iam not sure if i will go back

There food is is so tasty. I really love their curries and the Pad Thai is very well done. I've had the Pad Thai at least 20 times now and it's never come out badly for me. The Chicken Basil is also a favorite. They'll pour extra sauce over the rice if you ask. Yum! The staff--I think there's just two of them--is always friendly when I go in and I've never been here when there weren't several other people eating and/or waiting on food. I've also recognized other repeat customers so I know I'm not the only one going back here again and again. Cash only, which is the case with most of the places in this plaza, so hit the ATM before you go.

  • Kathy L.

Hands down, best pad thai in the area. I have tried Krung Thai, Sweet Basil, Thai Lovers, etc, but they do not match my expectations. I have tried their garlic chicken and it was also very delicious. This place never disappoints me!

the basil fried rice is delicious, but I get it mild because it can get very spicy!! The pad thai and pad kee mao is amazing too.

I had been meaning to try this place ever since it opened. I'm not a huge fan of thai food but it's really grown on me. My sister's friend kept mentioning how much she liked this place so today we went to check it out. Although they have some tables, this place is mainly meant for takeout. I got the chicken masman curry and my sister got the yellow curry. My sister really liked her yellow curry. The chicken masman curry was supposed to be mild, but it was really spicy for me. Then again, a little spicy is already pretty spicy to me. I liked the pineapples in the curry, and it really helped with the spiciness. I really want to go back and try their other dishes, especially the pad thai.

  • Tuyet C.

The pad thai here is bomb dot com! I love it because it's VERY flavorful and the spiciness( i always get medium) is a hit! The employees are ok, they don't really talk much but the quality of their food is a plus:) My favorite are the pad thai, garlic chicken( a sweet taste), tamarind fish(sweet and sour flavor), and spicy fish(spicy and sweet). So good! They charge .45 cents for any card transaction that is under $10!

  • Mallory C.

This is a long overdue review. This place is probably my favorite Thai place in SJ. It is not a sit down restaurant, but is still pretty nice/clean if you want to eat there. I love their noodles dishes- I think their level of spice is right on (who makes pad Thai spicy?! So good!). The curries are pretty good too and the basil chicken is really spicy! Also their quality is pretty consistent from my experiences.

    (5)
  • Stephy L.

I love the pad thai here! Decent pricing for it's portion. About $10 for a medium size plate, enough to make me full and then some. The only thing I dislike about it is that they don't accept credit cards, so ordering more than one portion could get heavy on the cash.

    (4)
  • Monika T.

I absolutely LOVE their pad Thai here! The chicken basil and tamarind fish is also equally delicious! They make small portions of everything except for the curry so the food doesn't go bad throughout the day. The noodles are made as they are ordered and the cook is pretty fast. It'll take less than 5 minutes! Only thing that isn't good is their pineapple fried rice. =\

I don't think there's a single bad thing I can say about this place. Delicious food, no msg, fresh vegetables... So bomb *drooling

The staff here are very friendly. I told the lady it was my first time here and she kindly told me her personal favorites and the store's popular items. She did mention fried rice and pad thai were the popular entrees, but I decided to go against those and went for what was presented in front of my face. *Garlic chicken: It wasn't that good. It was more so on the saltier side. My boyfriend thought the chicken was too thick and chewy. *Panang curry with chicken: The curry was pretty decent. Came with pretty big thin slices of carrots. Chicken was again a bit dry and chewy. *Tamarine Fish?: Don't remember the actual name of this item, but it was definitely fish. I actually don't know what kind of fish it was too..hmm..but my boyfriend and I liked this item the most. It has a sweet and salty taste to it. Would definitely get this item again! *Thai tea: Got to have some thai tea if you're eating thai food, right?! Haha, well I'm not actually picky and crazy over thai tea. I thought their thai tea tasted like thai tea. My boyfriend said it was okay and that there was nothing special to it. Overall, decent for a thai fast food restaurant.

  • Lily T.

The food here just does not taste the same anymore. I feel like the kitchen sloppily (if that is even a word) makes the food. The pad thai comes out looking an awful pink/ orange color or makes it too sweet or slimey. I miss the hospitality of the owner and his wife but they are not always there anymore. The taste of the food no longer justifies the price of the entrée. And it hurts me to say that this is no longer my favorite thai joint close to home. I recommend going to the close by Bangkok Boulevard for more variety of thai foods and better tasting quality.

    (1)
  • Vivian D.

The portions look big but it really isn't that big! The pad thai and fried rice came in a takeout box that is divided into three sections so there wasn't much in it! The fried rice was so gross! Who the heck puts steamed broccoli on top of thai fried rice?! The shrimp that came with the fried rice didn't look appetizing at all so I didn't even touch the shrimp. Overall, just a gross fried rice. The pad thai was just a typical pad thai. Nothing special. For the price, I can get a much bigger portion and way tastier fried rice from another Thai place!

New ownership/management isn't that friendly, but the food still tastes the same. The food is fresh and fast. Good place to go for a fast Thai food fix.

  • Aliscia N.

I absolutely love this place! The pad Thai is my all time favorite and it's only $9! They give you a ridiculous amount and it's loaded with shrimp, chicken, and tofu -- probably my favorite pad thai ever! Be careful what spice level you order though because they take spice very seriously LOL. I also tried the basil fried rice and pad see ew from here and both are really good! The pad see ew was a little peppery though but it wasn't unbearable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good cheap Thai food. It's also a plus that the cute little Thai lady is super sweet and accommodating!

  • Jeziell B.

Why 5 stars? Well compared to other "fast food" Thai places, this place is better than the rest. It's no sit down Thai restaurant, but it's great for what it is. + affordable (2 sides + rice = less than $10) + plenty of non-meat options + curry veggies are fully cooked through!! + fast + tasty If you're not sure about what you're ordering, don't be shy to ask for a sample. Some things might be spicier than others, but I'm ok with that, I love me some spicy food. I just had Thai food for lunch from a food court (I won't name where), but the whole time I was eating that food, I was wishing I had Thai Elephant Express instead.

I love the Pad Thai here! Its not dry, and has the best sauce! I come here weekly with my friend and the lady is so nice to us! I never get tired of the pad thai lol. I also tried the garlic chicken and yellow curry here, both were very good. I tried the pad thai at a Thai restaurant that is in the same complex but it was dry and not good. Definitely recommend! Best Pad Thai!!

  • Jae U.

I've been coming here since I was in high school! I would recommend the Pad Thai and the currys are all delicious! The Pineapple Fried Rice is pretty good as well. I'm giving this place a 5 because of the Thai lady (who is actually Vietnamese). She always remembers my order and is super kind and sweet! I always love coming back because of her and the food! She always goes, "Pad Thai no spicy with chilli on the side right?" and then it just makes me happy to know that she remembers! If I can't go to Krung Thai I would go here. and IM SUPER PICKY ABOUT MY THAI FOOD!! Pad thai can either be so good or so gross. this place is consistent!

Typical cheap asian restaurant/store where they charge to credit card. This place also charges to use debit card. Only came to this places because of the rave of the pad thai. Found is super dry. I'd rather spend the extra $1 or $2 at other places near by. Going to have pad Thai might as well do it right.

This is my favorite place for thai food in San Jose . They don't have table service, but the food is delicious and fresh. The parking lot is always full but I've always gotten a spot. Service is fast and their thai tea and mango bubble tea is awesome. Get 2 entree's and rice for $8.75. I've tried the red and green curries and the spicy fish. I'm going to try everything here!

I must have caught this place on a bad day cause I walked in, only to see a bunch of food under the food warmers and they looked all dry and nasty. The food did not look appealing to me at all. So I ended up walking right out.

  • Mark R.

I come here once in a while during my lunch break if i have cash, suck that they don't accept card or else i would come more often. Anyways the food here is delicious and always fresh, the employees are real nice too and aren't shy to add a little more food on your plate if you give them that "i want more stare" I dont know what the other entry i get but i know one of them is the garlic chicken with rice. The Thai tea they sell is also really good but they don't have boba but it's all good because Tap Ex and Tai Tea is just next door. Really recommend if you have cash and looking for a rice meal to devour.

  • Cindy C.

The food here is pretty good. I've been here a few times with my boyfriend, but the last time we went, they forgot the rice that he ordered with his curry. I don't know if they just forgot or didn't hear the order, but when we got home it wasn't in the bag. I like the spicy flat noodle and the curries, but the garlic chicken is SO sweet, I ordered it since I saw a few people before me order it and decided to try it out but when I tried it it tasted unbearably sugary. The prices are okay but a little on the expensive side compared to similar thai places.

  • Lindy W.

Pretty generic Thai fast food place that's not particularly cheap considering the area and the amount of food you get. Tried a simple chicken pad thai that is served in a Styrofoam to go box with some crushed peanuts and lemon on the side. Kind of bland and not very exciting.

    (2)
  • Charlette Y.

Love that this a fast food place and the food is always fresh. Even though some items are already cooked noodles and fried rice items are made by order. Wait time is really fast and service is always excellent. The place is super clean and one of the best Thai places in this area. Pad Thai is a little on the sweet side but still good. My favorite would have to be the beef pad see ew. This is my go to place at least 2x a month.

I've been going here for the last five years now. I have tried their panang curry and garlic chicken. Their panang curry is ok, but their garlic chicken is sooooo good. Not too sweet, just right. I have tried finding this garlic chicken at other Thai places but never have been able to. They now accept credit card. Their prices are reasonable and they give very good portions. If you happen to go here, you MUST try their garlic chicken.

I absolutely love this place! The food is cooked daily or on the spot and its full of tropical flavors. Curse you thai elly for making me a fat kid! I come here religiously and the wonderful staff always has a good idea of what i want. my usual order is tofu red curry which is a wonderful creamy tropical blend of eggplant, bamboo shoots, and tofu of course. also i request the tamarind fish which is a sweet but sour tangy sauce over yummy tender tilapia fish. i get these two items over rice with the coconut soup, no tofu because the soup is just so yummy on its own! this is my usual order but i also love the pad thai, i cannot get a replica of it anywhere else in the world. I'm not exaggerating people the tamarind overpowers that fishy sauce that most pad thai has! you have to throw lemon on that bad boy and have it with thai iced tea to get your orange on! my boyfriend gets the pineapple fried rice which is also the perfect blend of flavors, and the pineapple gives it that nice tropical accent. i also like to get the pad see ew and i take that to go so i can throw a buttload of lemon on it. yes, im a true mexican at heart haha. bottom line, i love this place! i know its expensive, but its family owned and its the only location there is! so please keep it alive and thank you thai elly for awesome wholesome thai food.

Walked over here because Sweet Basil is closed on Wednesday. We enjoyed the quick made-to-order pineapple and spicy basil fried rice. Also got the chicken yellow curry and a really delicious garlic chicken. Easy and quick Thai fix. Shouldn't disappoint but won't blow you away Spent about $36

I moved to San Jose thought I try this place. By far the worst Thai food I had. I bought three dishes and left it in the rest. It was gross, it smelled funny, and taste like it was old. I have never heard of Thai fast food, this food is NOT made for fast food, as it can taste gross. Customer service is ok

  • Glenn L.

The owners are really nice and friendly. However the quality of food has downgraded compared to when they first opened. I used to tell my friends about this place when it first opened because its close by and they served some bomb ass garlic chicken and curry, but it's just not the same! BRING CASH...There's a minimum for debit card transactions which is pretty lame! Their pad thai is nothing special and their garlic chicken is not as satisfying as it used to be... the only thing I will get here when I do come back is their pinapple fried rice... and MAYBE their papaya salad...! not the best thai fast food for me anymore. +1 for friendly owners +1 for cleanliness.. fair enough..

  • FoodieCouple D.

How can it be that this fast-food joint serves up some of the best Thai food ever? Doesn't matter just go and eat it! Garlic chicken yellow curry tamarind fish papaya salad These are all amazing!!! Although this place is amazing and deserves the 4 stars, there are a couple of things that I don't care for... The pad thai- it's a little weird like the spices are just not right and it's usually too spicy- but I stopped ordering this! There's a weird rotting fruit smell right when you walk in- I don't know if this is from fung shui fruit house next door, but it sucks!

I love this place, wish it was more fancier and restaurant type though. I ordered a pad thai and it lasted for two days... So much food love it, Taste and flavoring is perfect. So much meat and tofu. I LOVE there basil chicken. Its bombdotcom. Oh and don't forget the chicken curry, Oh my ... super delicious...... YUM YUM YUM! This place is good to eat once in awhile, Only because they have lots of msg in their food, But its satisfying when its just a crave for once in awhile PS. Less oily than Krung Thai

When I get a craving for good Thai Yellow Curry, my go to place is Thai Elephant Express. They have a steam table where you can pick what items you want, but rather than cook their food in huge quantities, they only do small amounts at a time. That way the items don't sit there all day. Their Pad Thai is cooked to order. Make sure to specify the heat level you want for all your dishes. I'm a wuss and always ask for mild, but even that gets hot after you've been eating the dish long enough. I had their Basil Chicken mild and halfway through the meal, I just gave up 'cuz my mouth felt like it was on fire. Great value. I think one item with rice is $7.95 and two items is $8.95. They give you lots of food too. The people are really sweet and props for great customer service. I went in for take out one time and they gave me the wrong item. I called and they said they would remedy it the next time I went in. I didn't go back for 3 weeks and when I did, I mentioned it to the cashier. She said she remembered and comped my meal. Drawbacks to this place is that it's teeny as heck. It's really meant to be a take out place and not a sit down restaurant. Secondly, their menu is pretty limited. Lastly, it's cash only which really irks me. Luckily my bank is across the street.

I came with my girlfriend to get some food. While waiting in line we spotted a hair in the garlic chicken... As we were about to order, we saw the worker pick a spoon off the ground and put it back into the dish. The food is good, but the risk isn't worth it.

Rice plate with Penang Curry, Basil Chicken, and Thai tea please! This was my Thai to-go place when I lived in the area. I always use to do the rice place with penang curry until they offered me a sample of the basil chicken. After that, I was hooked! It was soo good. The reason why I loved coming here was that they weren't shady with the portions of food that they gave you. Time after time, my rice overfilled the to-go box. Not only were they generous with rice, they would pour in the penang curry and then add spoons and spoons of sauce after that. I never once had to ask for extra curry sauce! And the curry to me was good enough for a fast food place. It's even better than some actual Thai restaurants that water down their sauce. That's what I hate the most. It's not watered down here! And nothing completes an order of food without Thai Tea!!!! :)

this place is surprisingly really good. you can either order 1 or 2 item togo style with a side of white rice..or order individual portions offered in S/M/L. small is a pretty decent size for 2. pad thai (~$9)- chicken was cooked perfectly, not dry. tons of tofu chunks and you can taste the freshness of it also. really flavorful. generous portion..lots of meat/tofu. spicy tom yum soup (small ~$3)- yum indeed. super flavorful and spicy. you can definitely taste the quality in this..herbs galoreee basil beef? (~7$)- wasn't really interested in getting this but the lady suggested it, and i'm glad she did cause it was SO good. once again, super flavorful and REALLY, REALLY SPICY! total came out to be about $20 and bf and i had derricious leftovers. no msg in their food! i'll definitely be back.

... The food isn't great, but everyone there seems really friendly. I don't know if they know but their garlic chicken is really sweet... It taste almost like candied chicken. Also the green beans are really salty. I have to down 5 cups of water to finish my food. I'm not a fan.

I think it's a little pricey for a fast food joint.. but the Thai food is really delicious and always fresh. I've been going to eat here for over 4 years now and it's my go to Thai food place near the house. My hubby loves their Pad Thai. I love their curries!

This place isn't so bad. The pineapple fried rice is soo good. makes my mouth water. Lol anyways... Friendly environment, good food, and affordable prices. What is there to complain about? They give you so much food I always get full.

  • Mark D.

It's a small place that has mostly entrees (except noodle dishes) pre-made and sitting in bins. I ordered the pad thai, pad kee mao, and the basil chicken. The first two were made fresh after I ordered. All three were very good, although the pad thai was a bit heavy on the sauce. The portion size was good, prices were very reasonable, and the dishes were very flavorful. The only reason this place would not be my weekly stop is because most dishes are too sweet for my taste. I tried a sample of several very promising pre-made dishes and they were extremely sweet.

Love the pad Thai! This place is the bomb!!! Love the basil chicken, green beans and pad Thai!!! When they say spicy they ain't playin so if u can't take the heat get yo ass outta there!!!! They always hook it up and u always go back!!!

I love it! High-quality ingredients, the chef in the back definitely knows what he's doing! My favorite Thai restuarant. My go-to place for Asian food take-out now. I prefer it over Panda Express. The interior is very modern and the location is clean as well. This place is worth checking out. If you're unsure of what to order, try some samples and see what you prefer - as they have a large selection of entrees.

I used to frequent this place a lot and it has been a while since I've been so I thought what the hell. I read a couple of reviews about the food getting worse and hairs in the food. What do I find but much smaller portions for a 2 item combo than I remember and a hair buried in my food. I showed the owner and she didn't much seem to care that I was very unsatisfied and seemed to know the routine when I asked for my money back instead of more hairy food. I won't be coming back and neither will my friends

I love this Thai Elephant. I eat this at least once a week with my boyfriend and the lady always remembers us and remembers what we order. The sweet basil chicken and garlic chicken with sauce on the rice is the best! We never get tired of it. The portion is really good for the price. $10 cash only.

  • Cind Y.

Love this place! To-go box is packed with 2 items + rice, only for $10.50. That's a awesome price for Thai food. Not as many options as you would find in a standard Thai restaurant, but what's available is as good as it gets, in my option.

This place always satisfies my spicy cravings! My usual is the papaya salad, chicken basil & pad see ew...made SPICY! Don't say i didn't warn you, their spicy is VERY SPICY! They take credit card now, which is a plus. just remember they close on monday, I came a few times on a monday because it slipped my mind! :P

Been wanting to try this place out but never got around to it. The idea of it being similar to Panda "Express" is cool but I might just stick to the typical sit down Thai place or Panda if I want something good, quick and fast. I dont know what happened to my ability to handle spicyness but the tolerance has sure gone down and my mouth was tingly after. Was a little sad there was no yellow chicken curry (only yellow tofu curry- the price of coming here after 9 pm. What we ordered: Chicken Masman curry = spicy, pineapples helped balance the spicyness. Helped me with the yellow "curry" craving. Spicy Fish = would have prolly tasted better if it was actually warm (cant complain much if they are closing in about an hour and have some of their dishes presented in and outta the food warmers- the fish was outside of the warmer but still in the metal dishes/pan. Not warm enough. Pad thai= $9, good portion size enough for 2 to share, definitely had better elsewhere. Took a few bites and took it to go. (leftovers didnt look as appealing but we hate wasting food -again the price you pay for wanting "fast food") 2 items w/rice $8.75 + $9 pad thai = a little over $19 The verdict = would I order this stuff and bring it over to a friends to share or meet some friends here for a quick lunch/dinner? Probably not. Some might say this place is good, not my cup of tea. 1 star for free cold iced water 1 star for the concept of fast Thai food -would have gotten another star if the food was "ok" On a side note: the workers there were friendly and nice in answering any questions we had, and CASH ONLY.

Great as a fast food thai place to go to. This is where I go to get my Thai fix, Pad Thai costs $8. It can end up feeding you twice sometimes. The ladies serving are always nice and welcoming with a smile. Super fast service. The food can be on the sweet side of Pad Thai's. Only major downside is that it is closed on Mondays. For some reason I crave for it usually on a Monday too. The reason why I can not give it a 5 Star is because the food is a little pricey. Sometimes it just doesn't feel like it is worth what you pay.

Always pleased with Thai Elly when I go there, which is at least 1-2 times per week. Curry fried rice is delicious, you can have the lady pour whatever curry you prefer on top as she serves you. Be SPECIFIC about whether you want it spicy or not, that's my one mistake is not being clear enough when I specify that. Other than that, I LOVE the pad thai, pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, spicy fish, red curry, yellow curry. Thai iced tea and the list goes on. I plan to continue coming here for as long as they're around.

One of my fav to go places! Out of the multiple times I've ordered here, I've barely been disappointed. The food is fresh! My favorite is the tamarind fish, it's sweet!

After 2 years I still frequent this place on a regular. Not much has changed. But I have notice some obvious things. That sweet basil chicken sauce is like crack! The star in that dish is the sauce bar none. The chicken if you actually take time to analyze it is dry. The sauce hides the mediocre quality of the meat.. sounds familiar? ORANGE SAUCE AT LA VICTORIA! But still, I never get tired of the sweet basil sauce. I can just have the sauce over rice and I'm good. The made to order stuff is pleasant. I have tried other items besides the pad thai and have given them more merit on those made to order items. Good price is also their thai tea. Thai tea EVERYWHERE is overpriced. Mostly $3.00. This place it's only $2.00 IIRC and its a good size. It's not a complicated thing to make, but since the boom of Thai restaurants people have thought it to be some kind of difficult mixture. So props on this place for not overpricing it. To some it up, you go here for the Sweet Basil Chicken, and maybe a made to order dish like the common Pad Thai or Pad Se Ew. If it wasn't for such the good sauce though, that chicken is dry and has been from the beginning, but that sauce is so good it doesn't make it matter as much.

good crab fried rice. the combo plates are even better if you know what you are ordering. Yellow curry chicken was great with rice.

Love this place. It's great if you are looking for a good meal, for a good price, and fast! I've tried a lot of the Thai places in the area and this place is quite comparable, which makes this my "go-to" fast food place. The yellow/red curry tofu and Thai noodles are my favorite. Just be careful with the spice, they are serious about that! I ask for extra spicy because a lot of places don't put enough spice in their meals. This isn't the case here. Extra spicy=extra spicy!

The food is great. But for some reason I always have an upset stomach after eating this.

I pretty much like all of their menu. :-)) to yum soup, sweet chicken bail, pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, red/green curries... If you really love spicy food, try the chicken basil (the really spicy one, not the sweet). I only can eat half of it. Love the salted crab papaya salad there! Ask for extra salted crab if you like. Sticky rice n ango r good too! They took credit card before, but changed to cash only till now. :-( Good portion n affordable price!

Last time was not such a great experience... Everything was so spicy that we really paid the price later... if you KWIM?! Dang! It's not the the food was bad, it was still good, just incredibly spicy. Uncomfortably so. Unfortunately we haven't found the courage to go back.

My friend and I are usually around the area visiting different food places and one day we came to realize that we have yet to try Thai Elephant Express.. and so we decided to do just that. When we walked in, the place was fairly crowded with one table still open. The place is a moderately small space, but I guess maybe it's because they cater to busy people who don't have time to stay and eat, just to order to go and leave. I liked that we can see what we're ordering, they'll just scoop it out put it in containers and you're good to go. I was expecting the food to be "okay" but the food actually turned out to be great! We got the entree combo with 2 sides (basil chicken & green curry) and one order of the pad see ewe. I also got one Thai iced tea.The total came out to be about $20-25. The basil chicken had a little kick of spicyness to it. I wasn't fond of the basil leaves though, they were a little stale and dry, but maybe that's how they're supposed to be? The green curry was delicious. The pad see ewe was okay, there was a subtle funky smell from the seasoning that I wasn't used to, it smelled like live cattle... I probably wouldn't order it again, I would try the pad thai though and other foods. The Thai iced tea was very good and came in a generous size. I liked that they didn't put a lot of ice, I did not feel like I was getting gypped off at all like how other places usually do it. Overall I enjoyed my experience here, I would definitely come back again and try the other foods that they have! It's great for those who are in a rush and have the munchies for Thai food! Bring CASH if you're going to make a purchase less than $10.

They raised their price for their pad Thai since the last time I've been here. It's almost $9 but it is worth it! This place will forever be my go to restaurant for pad Thai! :)

Fast food should not be this expensive. The food is good and this place is convenient if you abruptly crave some Thai food and you live nearby (my reason for stopping by). Otherwise, you should go to an actual Thai restaurant because at least then, the price will make more sense.

My fiancée and I go here a few times a month. The pad Thai is delicious and the pad se ew is also amazing. The service is efficient and quick which is a plus. Typically we order over the phone and the good is always ready for pick up within 10 minutes. This is one of my favorite Thai spots in town since tee nee Thai closed down. The only down fall is it is a little crammed inside. Not many places to sit. But like I said. Great for take home!!!!

Wow! Thai Elephant Express kinda reminds me of Panda Express since you can see everything thing you're going to order...well for the curries and such. My sister and I ordered pad see ew and pad thai. At first I thought it was a little on the expensive side $16 for both..however when we got our order, I was pretty impressed! We had FULL takeout boxes..and both dishes came with lots and lots of meat. Though the claim to be msg free you could kind of taste it. The pad thai we ordered was mild but it still had a good kick to it. Would definitely come here again if I was in the area and craving some thai food. I can't wait to try the curries!

My good friend is fascinated with national fast food chains and especially the success of certain ethnic ones (Panda Express, Taco Bell, Happi House, etc.). One thing that has always puzzled him is why there doesn't seem to be any national (or even regional) Thai fast food chain. It's with this mindset that I visited Thai Elephant Express. I started my visit by taking a pic of the outside sign, both for Yelp and my friend. Once inside, I perused the items and was impressed by the variety. All the Thai staples were there and ready to eat: pad thai, pad see ew, basil chicken, massaman curry, yellow and red chicken curry, even vegetarian versions. The staff and probable owners seemed a bit suspicious of my photo taking proclivities and even asked what I was doing. As someone that takes a picture of almost everything I eat, I found it strange. I never understand when businesses, and especially restaurants, take this attitude. Is there something top-secret here? Are they worried that I'll take photos of these Thai staples and open my own store??? They seemed a bit more at ease when I actually ordered a 2 item order with rice, but answered my question about whether Thai Elephant Express was a chain or not with more caution (and tersely stated "no, it was not," although there's a location in Sunnyvale too). Overall, not the most pleasant exchange. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps thinking they might be a new business or inexperienced. In fact, Thai Elephant Express is well reviewed on Yelp and has been in business for over a year. A nice choice among the variety (or rather pho monotony) of Vietnamese choices in the area, it definitely was worth a try. My order consisted of the sweet basil chicken and the yellow curry chicken. The combination platter was served with a generous portion of rice. All for $7.99. I found the chicken a bit too sweet for my taste, but did enjoy the yellow curry over the rice. Overall, the Thai fast food experience went well. Perhaps this will be the next trend and soon people in the Midwest and Deep South will be able to have pad thai too... Thai Elephant Express takes credit cards.

The pad thai smells like cat food and tastes like ketchup. We could not finish. When my boyfriend offered a polite complaint, the owner just made a face at him. I've been here a few times before and had their soups (which are okay but definitely not filling) and bites of their side dishes. Nothing ever stood out. I feel bad giving this place only 1 star because it's a great location and the cleanliness of the shop is admirable, but then again it's in a brand new plaza... duh it's gonna be nice! My 1 star rating remains. This place is pretty popular among college-aged Asians around the Silvercreek and Evergreen areas... probably because there aren't too many other Thai options nearby. It's lame because it's the same price here as at a legit Thai place... Just one of the things that comes with living in an ethnic enclave...

Mmm I love their spicy pad kee mao, it is SPICY. And I love spicy food, yum yum. It is fast food but it tastes decent. I've only ate their pad kee mao, and I tried a bit of their pad thai from my friend's plate. It tastes ok to me, but for some reason the shrimp had a really fishy taste to it so I had to spit it out. Eeh, I'm just going to stick with the pad kee mao. Though I do find it a bit pricey, $10 but Thai food is usually pricey. When I want really good thai food I go to Krung Thai. This is just for random cravings and it is much nearer.

Expensive, but then again, which Thai place isn't? This place is the best option for us considering the limited Thai choices around here. I always get their 1 item combo with the tofu eggplant curry. The lady hooks me up with a lot more tofu than the young teen (their daughter?) who works there. I tried the shrimp fried rice once and it was incredibly dry. So dry it felt like swallowing sandpaper, even though it was good and spicy. Their food is spicy the way Thai food is supposed to be, not the watered down stuff I find at other places. I think I read a couple reviews about their complimentary thai tea, but I haven't seen that yet no matter what day of the week I go. Maybe they don't offer it anymore? Cash only.

Their restaurant is pretty clean and the food quality is pretty good. If its your first time going here I highly recommend you to try their Pad Thai unless you dont like pad thai. It is one of their amazing dishes along with the fact that they always cook it right when you order it so its hot and tasty!

it must've been my fifth time here, and well it was the time that they lost me as a customer. I usually order pad see ew tofu to go, i never get their cooked food or tried anything else....well except for their thai tea, which was pretty good, but how can u go wrong with that drink, you just can't...... so this time i got the usual, pad see ew, but with chicken...okay everything else was cooked perfectly, like the chicken was fine, the egg was fine, the broccoli was fine, even the noodles....BUT daaang was the sauce hella off! i am not talking about like it was just maybe a little bit off, it was like " I cannot eat another bite" off! it tasted like duck or some type of gamey taste that i just couldnt bear eating. oh my, sooo thas the end of the story, or review, because i don't think i would go back to this place. but they did have nice workers, and the food was ready quite quickly.

I don't think I'll be returning here anytime soon. Maybe because I came in both times for dinner takeout, but the pineapple fried rice and pad thai were really overcooked and dry. The rice had a crunch to it and the noodles clumped on my fork like TV dinner pasta. Thai ice tea was refreshing, but idk, it was iffy to see the guy spout it out of some icemaker-looking machine instead of pouring it out of a pitcher.
